My Iron Man Obsession

Welcome to this post, where I will attempt to explain my intense love for all things Iron Man in the most sane way possible, and make you understand that a life without a Tony Stark devotion, isn’t a life at all. Enjoy!

The story begins in April 2015. It was summer vacation and I was, of course, at my grandma’s place, just like I am now. Avengers: Age of Ultron had just released in India and my uncle was dying to see it with us.

I was NOT looking forward to it. I knew less about Marvel than I currently know about, say, Switzerland. Nothing, that is. I was so against superheroes and comics, and I thought the whole thing was so dumb. I was absolutely dreading the movie, and I remember thinking that I would have more fun revising trigonometry or something. But, my uncle was super pumped to see it, so we agreed in the end.

That’s how it started. First of all, just let me say, that if you have not watched Age of Ultron, YOU NEED TO GO DO THAT. I watched it with no knowledge whatsoever of the characters and story, and I came out with a completely changed life. Literally.

After that film, I started becoming really into the whole Marvel scene, but it wasn’t until May (2015), when we went to visit family in the United States, that I really became obsessed with Iron Man.

I had already decided that Captain America and Iron Man were my favourites of the lot after watching Age of Ultron. Until, one fine day in Denver, I was browsing through my cousin’s Netflix when I found a show called ‘Iron Man: Armoured Adventures’. I know, it sounds awfully cheesy, and my friends here tease me all the time for watching something like that, but, you know what people?

The haters gonna hate.

And in my defence, it’s not even for little kids. It’s for teens, which I happen to be, and every minute of those two seasons have been the best minutes of my life. Genius, that’s what it is.

I don’t know how to describe what happened next. I just went NUTS.

I made my cousin watch all the episodes with me, and she was more than happy to oblige. I just fell in love with the character and went completely crazy, reading about him, watching all the movies when I came to India, and making my mom buy all the merch I could get my hands on. Posters, comic books, keychains, hats, t shirts, dresses, phone cases, you name it, and I have it.

Why do I love Iron Man so much? Well, there’s too many reasons. I don’t know how to put it so that it makes sense. It’s just one of those things, ya know? For starters, Tony Stark is such an amazing character. He is just so COOL and has that I’m-the-best attitude going on, which is so funny to see. Robert Downey Jr. portrays the character so well in the movies, and let’s face it, the idea of a prodigal, narcissistic, billionaire with a flying suit and a hilarious sense of humour CANNOT go wrong. It can’t.

People always ask me: “But which do you actually like, Tony Stark or Iron Man?”

To those people: you really could not have asked a stupider question. I’m sorry but it’s true.

Why? Because, as said by the legend himself in Iron Man 3, “The suit and I are one. I am Iron Man.” Tony Stark IS Iron Man. There would not be one without the other, so it would be terribly illogical to choose between the two. There IS no choice, because they exist as one. Got it?

And now, as I pester my mother to buy me Iron Man’s metallic head, she is cursing my uncle for ever showing me Age of Ultron. It’s really all his fault.

If you still haven’t been able to comprehend the lengths of my obsession, then you should know that when people ask me who I am, I reply “Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist”, only to realise that it makes no sense whatsoever when I say it, because I am none of those things 🙂 . Also, I have been trying to figure out how to rename Siri to J.A.R.V.I.S, and have her control my whole house.

And that, my friends, is why my 13th birthday cake looked like this:

Pretty sweet. right?

I had to block out my name, because that wouldn’t be very anonymous, now would it?

One year later, on my 14th birthday, one of my friends (let’s call him the AvidAvenger, because he’s just as obsessed as I am) gave me a CD, onto which he had burned all the Iron Man comics ever to exist! Best birthday ever.

So that’s it you guys. I haven’t put any pictures of my merchandise in here, because there’s so much that it’s going to get it’s very own post! Stay tuned for that, coming up sometime in May, because I’ll have to take the pictures once I’m back home 🙂 .

Hope you guys enjoyed this post, let me know what you thought in the comments.

Tomorrow, there will be a book review in honour of World Book Day (23rd April) !! I’m so excited for it, it’ll be on one of my favourite books.

ThePastryPoet, signing off.
